Bitcoin gives back a weekend bounce as Trump rejects Iran's ceasefire offer and oil jumps. Bitcoin reclaimed $84,000 over the weekend and briefly tested $85,100, but slipped back to around $83,100 by Monday morning UTC — down roughly 1.6% on the day — after President Trump formally rejected Iran's proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and declined to rule out further strikes before the midterms; ether fell in tandem from a Monday open near $2,688 toward the mid-$2,600s. Brent crude jumped 3.2% to above $100 a barrel and WTI opened above $93, with a stronger dollar and higher bond yields adding to the pressure on non-yielding assets. CoinDesk · Rio Times

Bitcoin ETFs post a seventh straight inflow day, capping their biggest week since October; ether funds extend to six. US spot bitcoin ETFs took in $134.46m net on Friday, September 25 — a seventh consecutive inflow day — led by BlackRock's IBIT ($96.99m) and Fidelity's FBTC ($49.32m), while Bitwise's BITB redeemed $11.85m; the week's inflows totaled roughly $2.4bn, the largest weekly haul since October 2025 and enough to turn 2026's cumulative flows positive. Spot ether ETFs added $86.95m the same day — a sixth straight positive session — with BlackRock's ETHA ($50.37m) and its staked ETHB ($31.88m) leading and Fidelity's FETH adding $4.69m. Strategy buys another 1,665 bitcoin, leans on STRC buybacks again. An 8-K covering September 21–27 shows Strategy bought 1,665 BTC for $142.7m (average $85,681), funded by MSTR share sales, lifting total holdings to 847,666 BTC at an aggregate cost of roughly $63.95bn; the same week it repurchased 1.53m shares of its STRC preferred stock for $151.7m — funded partly by stock-sale proceeds and $48.1m of cash — outspending the bitcoin buy itself. Bitmine crosses 6 million ether, closing in on its 5% supply target. Tom Lee's Bitmine Immersion Technologies said Monday it bought 17,362 ETH over the past week — down from 27,562 the week before — taking holdings to 6,001,302 ETH, or roughly 4.9% of ether's circulating supply, with total crypto, cash and other holdings near $17.2bn; the slowing weekly pace comes as the company nears the goal it has been buying toward all year. Update: Bitget resumes withdrawals in phases as the hack tally rises to $387.5m and ZachXBT traces the laundering trail. Bitget began a phased restart of withdrawals Monday at 08:00 UTC — bitcoin first, with ether, USDT and remaining assets following through October 2 — after revising last Thursday's breach total (reported here) to roughly $387.5m from the initial $351.6m estimate. CEO Gracy Chen said investigators working with Mandiant and SlowMist traced the intrusion to a compromised backend system in Bitget's wallet infrastructure that was used to feed spoofed withdrawal requests, rather than any compromise of private keys or cold wallets, and the exchange launched a 5% recovery bounty program. Separately, on-chain investigator ZachXBT said suspected North Korea-linked launderers moving the stolen funds through Wasabi and other mixers have been coordinating openly on Discord and Telegram, and that one of the aliases involved previously laundered proceeds from the $292m Kelp DAO hack. Policy & regulation
No material new regulatory action in the last 72 hours. The Fed's and CFTC's stablecoin-and-margin proposals reported here Thursday remain in their comment periods, and nothing broke over the weekend from the SEC, Treasury, or the EU/Asian regulators to add to that record.
The Chatter
Michael Saylor, Strategy Chairman (essay, Sep 26): argues the "age of Digital Assets and Digital Intelligence needs a bill of digital rights, not a bill of restrictions," proposing five rights — to create, issue, custody, transfer and use digital assets — and framing the case around AI agents that will need money and capital markets operating "at the speed of software, 24 hours a day"; he sets a goal of enabling 10 million new companies to raise capital under such a regime. Julio Moreno, CryptoQuant Head of Research (X, Sep 26): flags that bitcoin's unrealized profit margin hit 33% — the highest since December 2024 — while profit-taking volume jumped to roughly 25,700 BTC, arguing the pairing is a classic sign of weakening rally momentum and rising correction risk even as bitcoin held near $85,000 for much of last week.
