Market signal
A hot CPI print and an 8% Kospi plunge wipe out close to $1bn in leveraged crypto bets. Wednesday's September CPI came in hotter than forecast (headline 3.7% y/y, core 2.6%), reviving bets on a second Fed hike this year; bitcoin slid toward the low $80,000s, ether lost more than 6% to near $2,350 and XRP fell about 5% to roughly $1.31, with CoinDesk estimating ether took nearly 60% of the circa-$950m in bitcoin and ether futures liquidated over 24 hours. The slide deepened into Thursday as South Korea's Kospi plunged about 8% and tripped circuit breakers, spilling into Nasdaq futures (-1%) and hitting altcoins harder than the majors; bitcoin dipped just above $80,000 before clawing back to around $81,200. Markets & flows — ETFs, stablecoins & on-chain
Bitcoin ETFs swing back to outflows as Fidelity's FBTC and BlackRock's IBIT lead the exit. US spot bitcoin ETFs shed a net $261.5m on October 14 per SoSoValue data, reversing October 13's $175.6m inflow day; FBTC led redemptions at $152.7m and IBIT followed at $110.9m, while Bitwise's BITB was the only fund in the green. Cumulative net inflows since the funds' 2024 launch stand near $57bn. KuCoin, via SoSoValue
Ether ETFs give back Tuesday's inflow as the complex posts a joint $391m outflow day. US spot ether ETFs lost roughly $130m net on October 14, ending the single-day inflow that had just broken a ten-day redemption streak; combined with the bitcoin figure, the two complexes shed about $391m on the day, a reminder that Tuesday's bounce in flows hasn't settled into a trend. The industry — exchanges, miners & infrastructure
Crypto-exposed stocks sell off with the CPI shock, then claw most of it back as bitcoin stabilizes. Robinhood fell 8.7% to $100.87, Circle dropped 6.7% to $78.66 and Coinbase lost 5.3% to $172.12 in Wednesday's session as the hot inflation print spread from crypto into listed proxies; shares pared losses in Thursday trade, with Circle up roughly 7%, Strategy and Coinbase both up more than 2% and Robinhood's decline narrowing to about 1%. Coinbase reports Q3 results on October 29, with analysts projecting a steep year-on-year revenue decline. Investing.com

The Chatter
Ki Young Ju (CryptoQuant CEO, X): declared the bitcoin bear cycle over, arguing CryptoQuant's PnL Index and Bull/Bear Cycle indicator point to 12–24 months of higher-or-sideways price action rather than a resumed decline – though he expects a milder 3–5x cycle this time given heavier ETF and custodial ownership than in past runs. via Bloomingbit
Crypto Patel (X, via crypto.news): flagged $80,108 as bitcoin's key support through Thursday's slide, warning that a clean break below it opens the door to a move toward $65,000 – his own technical read, not a house call from any desk. crypto.news
