ECB account of the 22–23 July meeting shows rate-setters flagged a further hike as likely. Published 27 August at 13:30 CET, the account confirms the Governing Council held all three key rates at the July meeting (deposit facility 2.25%, main refinancing 2.40%, marginal lending 2.65%) after June's increase, framing the hold explicitly as a pause: “it was important not to suggest that the pause in rate hikes at the current meeting meant that the end of the tightening cycle had been reached.” Members were already weighing a further increase, possibly at the 9–10 September meeting, and reaffirmed a data-dependent, meeting-by-meeting approach.
