Crude falls for a fourth straight session as Trump opens the door to Iran talks. WTI dropped about 4.5% to settle near $95.78/bbl and Brent fell roughly 3.4% to about $100.34/bbl on Monday, both touching their lowest in more than a week, after Trump told Fox News he would likely meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the UN General Assembly this week and, according to reports, turned down a Saudi request to strike the Houthis following Saturday's attacks on Riyadh and Yanbu. US diesel sets a fresh nominal record: $6.505 a gallon. AAA's national average climbed again Saturday from Friday's $6.45, with several Midwest states posting their highest-ever diesel prints as refiners run flat-out with no spare distillate capacity to add. AAA · Hokanews

Trump cuts short Camp David after Houthis strike Riyadh and an Aramco site in Yanbu, then declines to retaliate. The Houthis claimed ballistic-missile and drone strikes on "sensitive" Riyadh sites and an Aramco installation in Yanbu overnight Friday into Saturday; Trump returned early to the White House but, despite a Saudi request, opted against hitting Houthi targets, and Oman-mediated talks in Muscat produced a Houthi pledge to spare US, Israeli and commercial vessels — explicitly excluding Saudi ships. TotalEnergies signs cooperation deal to return to Venezuela. A TotalEnergies unit and PDVSA signed a memorandum of understanding in Caracas on Saturday covering energy projects, the French major's first step back into a country it exited years ago, as Venezuela courts foreign operators under hydrocarbons law changes following the US capture and ouster of Nicolás Maduro. Midstream — pipelines, LNG & shipping
Another tanker struck entering the Strait of Hormuz. UKMTO said a tanker on an inbound transit was hit by an unknown projectile Monday, injuring two crew members; the vessel continued under its own power toward its next port with no reported product spill, the latest in a run of Hormuz tanker incidents this month. Al Arabiya (UKMTO) · MarineLink
CENTCOM: Hormuz oil and LNG shipments hit a six-month high. Admiral Brad Cooper said mine-clearance and escort operations have kept the strait's main transit lanes clear, with more than a billion barrels of crude moved through in the past couple of months; separately, Commodity Context's Rory Johnston clocked the seven-day transit average near 12 million b/d as of Sunday — the fastest since June-July — though still under 60% of pre-war levels. Downstream — refining, fuels & chemicals
No material new downstream developments beyond the diesel record above. ExxonMobil's Joliet, Illinois refinery remains offline into a second week with still no restart date from the company.
The Chatter
Javier Blas (Bloomberg Opinion): in "The $1 Million-a-Day Oil Tanker Will Drive Inflation," Blas argues the real supply-chain damage isn't the headline crude price but freight — a Gulf-to-Asia VLCC now costs about $1.1 million a day, roughly 12x its level a few months ago, adding over $22/bbl in shipping alone versus about $2/bbl a year ago — a cost that shows up in fuel and goods prices regardless of where oil settles and won't disappear quickly even if the war does. Rory Johnston, Commodity Context (X): Johnston posted that Hormuz oil flow keeps climbing, with the seven-day transit average near 12 million b/d as of Sunday and now including daytime transits — "easily the fastest pace since the post-MOU June-July breakout" — and, unlike that earlier recovery, "virtually no Iranian crude" in the mix, though he cautions total flow is still under 60% of pre-war norms. Post
Amrita Sen, Energy Aspects (CNBC interview): Sen argues the market shouldn't read Monday's price drop as the all-clear, expecting the Iran war to keep disrupting oil flows through year-end even as China resumes buying crude in size and Middle East shipping risk stays elevated for Asian refiners.
