Brent pushes toward $117 as traders price in a possible post-midterm US strike on Iran. Brent was trading near $117/bbl and WTI just under $103 in midmorning US trade Friday, extending the week's gains; MarketScreener's weekly wrap ties the move to reports that a third US carrier strike group and an additional Marine expeditionary unit are being sent to the Middle East, on top of the ongoing Hormuz tanker claims and Houthi strikes on Saudi Arabia (see Upstream). Baker Hughes: US rig count unchanged for a second straight week. The total US count held at 603 for the week to October 23 — oil rigs up one to 460, gas rigs down one to 132 — still up roughly 10% from a year ago even as the active fleet has plateaued through October. BOE Report
Upstream — exploration & production
Houthis claim a fresh strike on Aramco's Yanbu terminal and Saudi Arabia's Defence Ministry in Riyadh; Riyadh hasn't confirmed either. Yemen's Houthis said they hit four targets over 48 hours — the Defence Ministry in the capital, an Aramco facility at Yanbu (where they say a fire broke out), King Fahd airport in Dammam and Abha airport — while the Saudi-led coalition says it intercepted a missile aimed at Riyadh and downed drones over the Riyadh and Medina regions; Saudi authorities have not confirmed damage at either the ministry or Yanbu. It matters because Yanbu is Aramco's main Red Sea export and refining hub and the kingdom's principal route for bypassing the Strait of Hormuz — a credible hit there would undercut the one alternative corridor Saudi Arabia has been leaning on. Midstream — pipelines, LNG & shipping
Trump calls Iran's tanker claims fake; his own Hormuz flow numbers don't match the shipping trackers either. Trump said Thursday that Iran was "making up fake hits, mines, and everything else" to drive up oil prices before the November 3 midterms, arguing more crude is now moving through the Strait of Hormuz than before the conflict; UKMTO's own transit counts, cited across the coverage, still put crossings roughly 70% below pre-war levels, and the Pentagon's earlier claim to have cleared Iranian mines from the strait remains contested by allied officials. The gap between the administration's barrel counts and independent trackers is itself shaping how much risk premium the market assigns to the chokepoint. Washington Times

The Chatter
A breaking-news window rather than a commentary one: extensive searching across Doomberg, HFI Research, Commodity Context, Super-Spiked, Javier Blas, Art Berman, Goehring & Rozencwajg, Energy Aspects/RBN Energy's public notes and the energy-fintwit regulars turned up nothing freely accessible and clearly dated to the last 24 hours — the wire services are still ahead of the analysts on this one.
