Market signal

Brent and WTI give back more of last week's spike as a jittery market reads Monday's round trip as inconclusive. Brent traded near $114.68 Tuesday, down from Monday's settle in the mid-$115s (which itself had briefly topped $117 intraday), with WTI slipping toward the $100 handle; the move tracks a Monday rally-and-fade tied to unconfirmed signals around US-Iran contacts, with traders unwilling to commit either way ahead of this week's Fed meeting. Upstream — exploration & production

OPEC+'s eight voluntary producers are leaning toward holding output targets steady again at Sunday's meeting, sources tell Reuters. The November 1 call will set December policy; the group has already paused its gradual-unwind hikes for October and November, and a further 2 million b/d of 2022-vintage cuts stay in place through year-end regardless. A capacity review that would normally reset 2027 quotas has been pushed back by the war, so sources say any change there is unlikely before next year. Oil & Gas 360 (Reuters)

No other material production, licensing, FID or M&A news crossed the wire in the window.

Midstream — pipelines, LNG & shipping

Iran's navy says a tanker caught fire after striking naval mines east of the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. Tehran's account says the vessel had switched off its tracking systems and strayed into a prohibited area before the blast; there is no independent confirmation of the mine strike, the tanker's identity or its flag, and no casualty report. Nothing new on freight rates, LNG FIDs or pipeline tariff fights today beyond that one incident.

Downstream — refining, fuels & chemicals

A quiet day on refining and products; nothing structural crossed the wire beyond yesterday's Russian diesel carve-out, which still stands. Exxon and Shell's full third-quarter results land later this week (Oct. 29–30) but aren't out yet.

The Chatter

Nothing freely accessible and clearly dated to the last 24 hours turned up from the usual roster — Doomberg, Commodity Context, Super-Spiked, Javier Blas, Art Berman, Goehring & Rozencwajg, Energy Aspects/RBN Energy's public notes and the energy-fintwit regulars — beyond pieces already covered in recent editions. A wire-led day rather than a commentary one.
