Market signal
Quiet on the tape the day before the Symposium opens. Spot has stayed rangebound in the high-US$80s/lb through the lead-up, with no distinct mover this window; London's World Nuclear Symposium runs September 9–11 and is the traditional starting gun for the year's heaviest utility contracting stretch. Spot chart
Upstream — mining & supply
No material mining or supply-policy news broke this window; producers and developers appear to be holding announcements for the Symposium floor.
Midstream — conversion, enrichment & fuel
Nothing material on conversion, enrichment or fuel fabrication broke this window either — the fuel-cycle players are almost certainly saving news for London.
Nuclear energy — reactors, industry & demand
DOE closes $1.9bn loan to restart Iowa's Duane Arnold plant. The Department of Energy's Office of Energy Dominance Financing finalised a loan of up to $1.9bn to NextEra Energy to help fund the restart of the 615MW Duane Arnold Energy Center, targeted for no later than Q1 2029 pending regulatory approvals — the fourth nuclear-restart financing the office has closed under the current administration and a further sign that federal balance sheets, not just utility ones, are underwriting the restart wave. Global nuclear generation set a record for a second straight year. The World Nuclear Association's newest Outlook Report puts 2025 nuclear output at 2,702 TWh, up from 2024's 2,667 TWh, on an average fleet capacity factor of 83.7% — released this week to land just ahead of the Symposium's opening and underscore the industry's pitch that existing plants are already outperforming, before any of the new-build pipeline lands. China pours first concrete for a second Zhaoyuan HPR1000 unit. CNNC subsidiary CNECC poured the basemat for Zhaoyuan unit 2 on September 5 — about 8,800 cubic metres over roughly 60 hours — the second of six Hualong One units planned for the CGN-operated Shandong site, and a reminder of the sheer construction cadence China is running while Western vendors still measure new units in the single digits. The Chatter
The named commentary crowd — fund letters, Substack writers, the sharper end of uranium fintwit — stayed quiet this window rather than publish new arguments; the searches surfaced only restated priors already covered in prior editions or pieces that predate this week. Expect this section to fill out once London gets underway from Wednesday and the sector has fresh headlines to react to.
