Market signal
Spot trades a hair softer on very thin volume; term stays put at its record. TradeTech registered just two concluded transactions in the week's spot market, with the price easing US$0.25/lb to US$89.75/lb as buyers and sellers both sat on their hands rather than move off their bid or offer — a standoff reading more as a pause than a turn. Long-term contract prices carry no fresh print and remain at the nominal record above US$96/lb reported last week. FNArena, citing TradeTech
Upstream — mining & supply
No material producer, developer or country-policy news broke in this window — a genuinely quiet 24 hours upstream after a heavy run of financing and guidance stories over the past two weeks.
Midstream — conversion, enrichment & fuel
Reporting details how Russian material keeps reaching the US despite the import ban's rhetoric. A Foreign Policy analysis lays out the mechanics behind the 2024 Russian-uranium import ban: permitted imports ran only about 4% below prewar shipments in 2024 and are set to taper by roughly 1% a year before the ban fully bites in 2028, and even Moscow's own retaliatory export ban has been undercut by Kremlin-issued licenses — three of which cleared cargo including a 100-tonne uranium delivery into Baltimore via the Rosatom-linked vessel Atlantic Navigator II in February 2025. The piece argues Rosatom's global reach makes it leverage Washington can't fully cut off on the current timeline, a useful read alongside last week's sanctions-law coverage. Foreign Policy (paywall)
Nuclear energy — reactors, industry & demand
Bechtel exits the Natrium project; TerraPower says the Kemmerer timeline holds. Bechtel filed a WARN notice on 15 September confirming it will step away as lead EPC contractor on TerraPower's Natrium sodium-cooled reactor at Kemmerer, Wyoming, after the two firms couldn't agree terms for the project's next phase; roughly 200 positions at Bechtel's Reston, Virginia nuclear-engineering HQ are being cut from mid-November. Bechtel will stay on site to finish the Sodium Test and Fill Facility while TerraPower rebids the EPC contract; TerraPower says it still targets construction completion in 2030 and commercial operation in 2031. EDF's Nuward sets out a first fleet of 10 SMRs across five European countries. Nuward's chief executive said the reactor-design subsidiary is developing a first European series of 10 small modular reactors with five countries, targeting construction start on the first unit in 2030 and first production by 2035; France gets the first unit, Italy the second, with talks under way on further units in Poland, Belgium and Finland. It's EDF's clearest timeline yet for turning the long-delayed Nuward design into an actual build program. World Nuclear News
The Chatter
FNArena's Uranium Week: reads this week's near-empty spot tape (two trades, per TradeTech) as buyers and sellers both refusing to blink rather than a sign of weakening demand, and separately flags the scale behind Westinghouse's reported $50bn-plus IPO target — technology in 57% of the world's 417 operating reactors and a pipeline of up to 91 AP1000 opportunities — as the commercial base the market is now trying to price. Its read, not this desk's. Post (paywall)
