Uranium & Nuclear Energy Corner
Thursday, 2026-10-01 · covering the last 24h
Upstream — mining & supply
Nothing fresh cleared the bar on the mining and supply side in the last 24 hours — a check of the major producers, the Namibian, Kazakh, Nigerien, Canadian, Australian and US trackers, and the acid-supply situation at the Athabasca mills turned up only moves already covered in the last two editions.
Midstream — conversion, enrichment & fuel
Similarly quiet on conversion, enrichment, HALEU and fabrication; no new filings, contracts or Russian-supply developments beyond the General Matter Paducah application already noted this week.
Nuclear energy — reactors, industry & demand
Amazon signs a 20-year, 690 MW nuclear power deal with Constellation, unlocking $3bn-plus of Calvert Cliffs upgrades. Amazon will take 690 MW from Constellation's 1,790 MW Calvert Cliffs plant in Maryland under a 20-year power purchase agreement, including roughly 190 MW of new capacity from uprates expected on line between 2030 and 2032; the deal underwrites more than $3 billion of investment at the site and gives Constellation the revenue certainty to pursue a 20-year relicensing of the plant, alongside a companion retail-supply agreement covering Amazon's broader PJM-region load. Startup Valar Atomics files to build a 456-microreactor, 9.4 GW data-centre campus on BLM land in Utah. Valar Atomics has applied to the Bureau of Land Management for roughly 9,500 federal acres near Price, Utah for "Project Beehive" — data centres paired with 456 of the company's small helium-cooled reactors plus on-site fuel-fabrication and waste-storage facilities, targeting first reactors on line in 2028 and full build-out by 2032; the BLM's Utah office confirmed it has received the application and is reviewing it for completeness, underscoring how far advanced-reactor deployment ambitions are now running ahead of established federal siting and licensing precedent. The Chatter
A proper look across X, Substack and fund/analyst notes this window turned up nothing that rose to a distinct, dated ARGUMENT beyond recycled bull-case summaries and routine stock-move write-ups already implicit in the news above — so no items today rather than padding with repetition.
