Uranium & Nuclear Energy Corner

Friday, 2026-10-09 · covering the last 24h

Upstream — mining & supply

No material mining, developer or country-policy news cleared the bar this window — producer newsrooms (Cameco, Kazatomprom, Paladin, Boss Energy, Denison, NexGen, Energy Fuels, UEC) and the Niger/Namibia/Kazakhstan policy trackers were quiet in the last 24 hours.

Midstream — conversion, enrichment & fuel

No material conversion, enrichment, HALEU, deconversion or fabrication news cleared the bar this window.

Nuclear energy — reactors, industry & demand

Google signs a 3,590 MW Constellation power package, with 890 MW of it new nuclear — a deal this Corner hadn't yet caught. Announced October 6 and not reflected in the last two editions, the agreements pair a 20-year power purchase deal backing $4.3bn of turbine and equipment uprates across 11 Constellation reactors in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey (first uprate online 2028, full 890 MW by 2032) with a separate 15-year, 2,700 MW supply contract from Constellation's existing PJM fleet. It's the latest hyperscaler-nuclear tie-up after Amazon's and Microsoft's, and leans on the uprate route — adding capacity at reactors that already exist — as the fastest path to new nuclear megawatts on the grid. NRC reviews Holtec's emergency request to retrieve a tilted fuel assembly at the restarted Palisades plant. Palisades Energy (Holtec) filed a license amendment request on September 30 for custom equipment and procedures to move assembly "DD41" — found tilted roughly 30 degrees against the core shroud — from the reactor core to the spent fuel pool's cask loading area; the NRC's October 6 notice says it has verified the fuel rods remain intact and safe, with no radiological release, while the amendment is reviewed and open for public comment. The Chatter

A proper look across X, Substack and fund/analyst notes (Trader Ferg, The Oregon Group, Uranium Insider's public posts, Sprott, FNArena's Uranium Week) turned up nothing freshly argued and dated to this window — so no items today rather than recycling older commentary as new.
