At a glance: 38 S&P 500 names report today — headlined by ConocoPhillips, Parker Hannifin and Southern Company, with Airbnb, Duke Energy, Monster Beverage, Cigna and EOG Resources also on the docket (ConocoPhillips, Parker Hannifin, Southern, Duke and Cigna before the open; Airbnb, Monster and EOG after the close).
The earnings calendar carries no confirmed session for Steris today, so the date is provisional and the company may report later in the period.
Reported EPS for 11 names in today's scorecard reflects the earnings calendar's headline figure rather than a basis confirmed comparable to consensus, so no year-on-year comparison is shown for those names.
The tape ahead
ConocoPhillips reports before the open, and the setup is about whether Permian growth and the ramp from Qatar can keep production inside guidance even as recent portfolio sales trim volumes elsewhere, with capital discipline and the pace of buybacks the other half of the debate. Consensus EPS of $3.05 implies growth of 89.4% YoY, with revenue consensus of $18.96B implying 22.1% YoY growth — both a reflection of how weak last year's oil-price base was rather than a sudden step up in the business, and a sharp reversal from the negative 1-year and 3-year EPS CAGRs the stock has posted. Margins already moved sharply in the last reported quarter, gross margin up 9.5 points to 36.7% and net margin up 6.7 points to 20.5%, evidence the cost base has been reset lower even before this quarter's print. The 3.3% implied move runs more than double ConocoPhillips' own 1.5% realized-move average, against a strong 88% beat rate and a 10.6% surprise last time out — a modestly rich straddle for a name that has rarely disappointed. Read-across is direct: EOG Resources reports its own results after the close tonight, and the two prints together will frame how the group's oil-price-driven recovery is being read heading into year-end.
Parker Hannifin reports before the open, coming off a sharp sell-off since its last print even with fiscal 2026 closing at a record — the debate now is whether orders and backlog can show the momentum the market has questioned, rather than simply confirming revenue booked long ago. Consensus EPS of $8.17 implies growth of 13.2% YoY, with revenue consensus of $5.79B implying 13.8% YoY growth, ahead of Parker's own 1-year EPS CAGR of 5.0% but behind its 3-year, 5-year and 10-year CAGRs of 21.1%, 16.4% and 17.1%, pointing to a business still compounding but off its recent peak pace. Margins continued to expand in the last reported quarter, gross margin up 2.3 points to 39.0% and net margin up 2.5 points to 19.0%. The nearest expiry is the November monthly, so the 10.7% straddle spans roughly two weeks rather than the print alone; Parker's own eight-for-eight beat record and a 12.2% surprise last time are the more useful guide to what tonight might bring. Read-across is immediate off Emerson's beat in today's scorecard, on the same industrial-automation and data-center capex themes.
Southern Company reports before the open, with the central question whether data-center load — which has been building quickly across its Georgia and Alabama service territory — kept accelerating through the third quarter, and whether Georgia Power's nuclear fleet gives the utility room to serve it without squeezing near-term earnings. Consensus EPS of $1.71 implies growth of 6.9% YoY, with revenue consensus of $8.41B implying 7.5% YoY growth, both close to Southern's own 3-year and 5-year EPS CAGRs of 6.2% and 5.9% — a sign this quarter is tracking trend rather than accelerating or decelerating. Margins moved higher in the last reported quarter, gross margin up 4.8 points to 51.3% and net margin up 0.7 points to 16.8%. The 2.3% implied move sits only modestly above Southern's own 2.0% realized-move average, against a 75% beat rate and an 11.8% surprise last time out — a fairly tame straddle for a utility whose load-growth debate has become one of the sector's most closely watched. Read-across is direct to Duke Energy, which reports its own numbers the same morning on the identical data-center theme.
Duke Energy reports before the open, and the setup mirrors Southern's: whether gigawatt-scale data-center service agreements across the Carolinas and Florida keep converting into contracted, billable load, and whether large-load tariff protections are enough to keep data centers paying their own way rather than shifting cost onto existing ratepayers. Consensus EPS of $1.86 implies growth of just 2.8% YoY, with revenue consensus of $8.97B implying 5.0% YoY growth, both well below Duke's own 3-year and 5-year EPS CAGRs of 24.5% and 27.9%, suggesting the Street expects a comparatively quiet quarter ahead of the heavier load conversion management has guided toward 2027-2028. Margins diverged in the last reported quarter: gross margin up 6.0 points to 54.8%, but net margin down 2.5 points to 14.4%, consistent with the financing and depreciation costs that come with the scale of Duke's current capital program. The nearest expiry is the November monthly, so the 3.6% straddle spans roughly two weeks rather than the print alone; Duke's own 88% beat rate and 9.6% surprise last time are the more useful guide. Read-across is immediate to Southern Company, reporting the same morning on the same theme.
Monster Beverage reports after the close, with the debate centered on whether international expansion and new flavor and alcohol-brand launches can keep offsetting a maturing US energy-drink category, alongside margin relief from lower input costs. Consensus EPS of $0.30 implies growth of 11.1% YoY, with revenue consensus of $2.49B implying 13.5% YoY growth — both ahead of Monster's own 5-year EPS CAGR, which is actually negative at -6.0%, though behind its stronger 20.1% 3-year trailing growth rate. Margins ticked higher on the gross line in the last reported quarter, up 1.0 point to 56.0%, while net margin slipped 1.2 points to 23.0%. The nearest expiry is the November monthly, so the 8.0% straddle spans roughly two weeks rather than the print alone; with only a 50% beat rate over the last eight quarters and a 1.8% surprise last time out, Monster's own history is close to a coin flip on which way tonight breaks. Read-across extends to the broader energy-drink and non-alcoholic beverage complex, where Monster's international volume commentary is watched as a read on category health outside a saturated US market.
Cigna reports before the open, and the quarter is a test of whether Evernorth's pharmacy-benefit growth and the Cigna Healthcare segment can keep absorbing pressure from slower GLP-1 prescription growth and the cost of rolling out its rebate-free Signature pricing model ahead of a planned 2027 launch. Consensus EPS of $7.51 implies a 4.1% decline YoY, with revenue consensus of $72.45B implying 3.9% YoY growth — a case where the top line is still expected to grow while the bottom line shrinks, worth watching given Cigna's own 1-year EPS CAGR is a sharply positive 82.9% off easier prior comparisons. Margins were roughly flat in the last reported quarter, gross margin down 0.4 points to 8.8% and net margin down 0.1 points to 2.3%, typical of the thin structural margins in PBM-heavy healthcare distribution. The 5.4% implied move actually sits below Cigna's own 6.1% realized-move average — a comparatively cheap straddle given an 88% beat rate, though last time's surprise was a modest 2.4%, suggesting the options market isn't pricing much drama around a print that consensus already expects to show a year-on-year decline. Read-across matters ahead of Humana's own print later this week, where PBM and Medicare Advantage cost trends will be read together.
EOG Resources reports after the close, with the setup centered on whether capital discipline — full-year spending held close to prior guidance even as oil and gas volumes have ticked higher — and the ramp of newer gas assets can keep translating into free cash flow regardless of where crude settles this quarter. Consensus EPS of $4.45 implies growth of 64.2% YoY, with revenue consensus of $7.29B implying 24.7% YoY growth — both a sharp reversal of the negative 1-year and 3-year EPS CAGRs the stock has posted, a reminder of how much last year's commodity-price trough is still the base being compared against. Margins expanded again in the last reported quarter, gross margin up 5.9 points to 71.7% and net margin up 2.8 points to 32.1%. The 3.8% implied move is nearly five times EOG's own 0.8% realized-move average — the richest straddle relative to history in today's lineup — against a perfect eight-for-eight beat record, though last quarter's surprise was a modest 2.1%, so the premium looks more like options positioning around commodity volatility than a specific expectation of a blowout. Read-across is direct to ConocoPhillips, which reports its own results earlier the same morning on the identical oil-price recovery theme.
Airbnb reports after the close, with international expansion and the build-out of Experiences and other services beyond core lodging the two growth levers management has leaned on as US travel-demand growth moderates. Consensus EPS of $2.85 implies growth of 29.0% YoY, with revenue consensus of $4.75B implying 16.0% YoY growth — both ahead of Airbnb's own 1-year EPS CAGR, which is slightly negative at -1.8%, pointing to an acceleration the Street is pricing even as recent trailing growth has cooled. Margins moved sharply in the last reported quarter, gross margin up 4.2 points to 82.5% and net margin up a full 16.6 points to 22.6%. The 7.1% implied move is more than four times Airbnb's own 1.6% realized-move average — a rich straddle made riskier by a beat rate of just 38% over the last eight quarters, the weakest track record of any name on today's docket, even with a 9.5% surprise last time out. Read-across extends to the rest of online travel: Expedia's beat this week still sold off after the close in today's scorecard, a reminder that even a clean print hasn't satisfied this group lately.

Scorecard — reported since we last wrote
The previous edition's eight marquee names scored unevenly against the tape. McDonald's and AppLovin's beats were rewarded — the latter surging 22.8% after the close — while Qualcomm's in-line EPS and revenue beat still cost the stock 8.8% after hours, and CVS Health's clean beat on both lines sold off 12.5% anyway, the kind of reaction that says more about the stock's setup than the quarter itself. Uber missed consensus EPS by a wide margin on a reported figure down 92.0% year on year — a comparison the data flags as resting on an outsized year-ago quarter, when a one-time tax-valuation release and mark-to-market gains on Uber's equity stakes inflated the prior print — yet the stock still rose 4.9% on an in-line revenue number. Emerson Electric's in-line EPS came with a revenue beat and margin expansion (gross margin up 1.4 points, net margin up 1.2 points), good enough for a 2.4% gain; Motorola Solutions' clean beat on both lines barely moved the stock. Elsewhere, Edwards Lifesciences beat on both EPS and revenue even as net margin compressed by 9.2 points against the base we published in the preview — a reminder that a surprise percentage alone doesn't always tell the full margin story.
