Market signal
Gold and silver diverge as Fed-pause bets collide with a crude-oil spike. Spot gold held almost flat near $4,167.90/oz (down about 0.05%) while spot silver eased roughly 0.8% to $56.85, a day after Thursday's bounce off Wednesday's hot-CPI selloff. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh declined to signal an imminent policy move, keeping the market's lean toward an October pause intact even as persistent inflation keeps a year-end hike risk alive. The divergence came as crude surged on intensifying attacks on shipping around the Strait of Hormuz — Brent settled at $109.86/bbl and front-month WTI pushed back above $100 — reviving the inflation-expectations channel that weighs on bullion even as safe-haven bids persist; a tech-stock selloff tied to debt-financed AI-investment concerns added to the risk-off tone. Platinum and palladium again had no distinct catalyst of their own this window. Kitco · Kitco
Upstream — miners, streamers & supply
Gold Fields' CEO plays down an imminent sweetened Northern Star offer. Mike Fraser said Gold Fields would not raise its rejected A$38.7bn share-and-cash bid for the Australian miner unless Northern Star first signals a workable path to a deal, and that Gold Fields would walk away rather than overpay; he is in Australia this week meeting investors, who account for roughly half the register. Northern Star shares remain above the implied value of the rejected offer, which the market reads as still pricing in a return approach. BusinessDay (paywall)
No other miner, streamer, royalty-trio, labour or mining-policy development cleared the bar this window; Newmont, Barrick, Agnico Eagle and Kinross don't report Q3 results until the week of October 19–22.
Physical & official flows — central banks, ETFs & bullion
Nothing fresh on official-sector or bullion-market flows this window: the WGC's record $31bn Q3 gold-ETF inflow print was covered here last Friday, the next central-bank tally (September) isn't due until November, and no new COMEX/LBMA inventory or EFP data surfaced.
Silver & PGMs — the industrial complex
No silver- or PGM-specific development cleared the bar this window; silver's sharper swings against gold this week (above, under Market signal) are the closest thing to an industrial-complex story and aren't repeated here.
The Chatter
A ninth straight quiet window for genuinely new, freely accessible argument from the regular roster. Lyn Alden's most recent on-record remarks (Kitco, Sept. 29) and Incrementum's Ronald-Peter Stöferle's (Kitco Beaver Creek interview, Sept. 25) remain the latest found and are both weeks old and previously noted here; Ross Norman's most recent published view dates to late July; GoldFix stays behind its Founders paywall; nothing fresh turned up from Gromen, Costa, Nieuwenhuijs or the World Gold Council's own analysts. Better to flag the drought again than recycle old calls under today's date.
